About Nationwide

We started operating in 1846 and we were called the Provident Union Building Society.

When we started banking products and services were only accessible to the wealthy, while it was hard for the working classes to get credit and find secure, comfortable, and long-term housing.

Aims of the nationwide bank

As the Nationwide bank, what we observed during the 19th century did not sit well with us. We looked for ways to help everybody to have a sense of belonging and have something to keep them moving. We strived to make services accessible to everyone regardless of your financial status. Since then we managed to help ordinary, working-class people to save and borrow money for land and materials with which to build their own homes.

At Nationwide, we are never shaken

Centuries have passed and things are either easy or become harder, but we have never changed our aim and we never forgot the reason for our existence. At Nationwide we have remained solid, stable and dependable despite the increasingly complex regulatory environment and financial crises. We are still committed to doing the right thing by our members and faithful to our mutual heritage.

We are responsible lenders

Regardless of how you are desperately in need of financial support, we will never lend you more than what you can afford. We adhere to UK credit rules which forces us to lend responsibly. Lending responsibly simply means that before giving you a loan we should firstly look at your credit report, determine your income and expenses. If ever you will not be able to cope with the instalment for the duration of the loan, we should not lend you.

Nationwide Services

We offer the best affordable loans in the UK.

Nationwide has services that will help you become financially smart and improve your credit score. Our services are designed to suit every individual’s needs.
